The first time I saw Kabuki, I was deeply impressed by the innovative color schemes of the costumes and props, the original designs, and the intricate construction.
This experience prompted me to research the artisans, materials, and tools involved in various traditional crafts, including Kabuki, and I discovered that it is more difficult than I had imagined to pass on these objects and techniques.
Seeing how wonderful things and techniques are disappearing, we thought that even though we can't make them ourselves, we might be able to connect traditional craft techniques to modern life. And that's how KARAFURU came about.
The things and techniques that have been handed down over the years are Japan's treasures. If these treasures were closer to us, we would be able to appreciate their value even more.
It was with this feeling that KARAFURU began creating things and spaces.
